Founded in 1850, Elk Grove was once a stage stop for people traveling between Sacramento and the San Francisco Bay Area. Today it is the second largest city in Sacramento County, and was the fastest growing city in the U.S. between 2004-2005.

In addition to 18 miles of biking and walking trails, the nearby Stone Lakes National Wildlife Refuge offers peaceful guided paddle trips and nature hikes.

Wine lovers revel in the bounty of vineyards both in town and nearby. The Old Sugar Mill is just 20 minutes west on the Sacramento River and is home to a unique community of wineries with small craft vendors and art walks featured year round.
